# Biohazard VFX workstation builds

**Observed November 4, 2026 · United States · USD · complete bare towers, not upgrades.** Prices below were read from live retailer pages, variant APIs or browser purchase panels—not MSRP or price-comparison snippets. All BOM rows have the same observation date; individual dates and exact purchase URLs are repeated in `workstations.json`. Availability is what the seller reported, not a reservation. The star PSU is explicitly a **3–5-day distributor order**, not shelf stock.[162]

| Tier | Decision | Parts subtotal |
|---|---|---:|
| **STAR-KILLER** | 9995WX / 1TB ECC / **3 × 96GB RTX PRO 6000 Max-Q** / 100GbE | **$123,859.84** |
| **MID — recommended new machine** | 9970X / 256GB ECC / **72GB RTX PRO 5000 Blackwell** | **$26,753.75** |
| **BUDGET — capacity-first** | 5900XT / 128GB DDR4 / **refurbished 48GB RTX A6000** | **$6,827.84** |

Totals include every priced component below. **Exclude** sales tax, shipping, assembly, displays/peripherals, DCC/render licenses, UPS, switch/NAS upgrades and electrician work. Reuse peripherals; install the studio's Arch/Linux environment. These are researched designs, **not physically assembled or burn-in-verified machines**.

## Current-generation checks

- **CPU:** select AMD's 96-core/192-thread, 350W **Threadripper PRO 9995WX**, not an assumed Zen 6 product.[248]
A purchasable Zen 6/TR6 successor was **unverified** in this research; no speculative successor is priced. Intel's real contemporary alternative is **Xeon 698X / W890**, 86 cores, announced February 2, 2026—not merely the older Xeon W-3500 family.[61][63]
No directly comparable 698X Blender 5.2 result was found in the retrieved CPU table.[160]
- **GPU:** NVIDIA's current workstation table still lists **RTX PRO 6000 96GB** at the top, including its 300W Max-Q variant.[66] The newer catalog also contains **RTX PRO 5500 84GB** and **RTX PRO 5000 72GB**; the latter is generally available and is selected for MID.[64][239] No newer purchasable workstation flagship above the 6000 was verified.
- **32GB is not enough margin:** the supplied city-scene requirement is **28–33GB per frame**. A 32GB 5090 cannot cover its 33GB upper end, before display/context/other-app overhead. A retrieved US listing was $5,699.99 for a 32GB 5090; it is neither the capacity solution nor the selected budget GPU.[208] Capacity comparisons are design deductions from the brief, not measured scene renders.

## 1. STAR-KILLER — $123,859.84

**No-compromise concurrency/capacity, not the fastest possible single GPU.** Choose three 300W Max-Q cards because NVIDIA designed that 96GB model for dense multi-GPU workstations.[238] The full 600W edition has a higher per-card Open Data median; this choice deliberately buys independent workers and thermal/power headroom rather than that last single-card increment.[66][84]

**Assembly / fit.** Meshify 2 XL supports SSI-EEB and the 165mm Noctua cooler.[243][359]
Put GPUs in board slots **1/3/5**, NIC in **7**; the x8 electrical slot is **6**, not 7.[390][391]
This is a packing plan derived from the board's slot layout, not a claim that this exact parts combination has been certified. Populate all eight RDIMM slots.[381]
Fill the four onboard M.2 positions with the boot SSD and three scratch SSDs—no hidden PCIe storage card or riser is needed.[249]

**Cooling / power.** The airflow plan uses five added NF-A14s plus the three included chassis fans: three front and two bottom intakes; two top and one rear exhaust.[243][325]
Remove HDD cages. Keep the CPU at stock 350W, no PBO.[248]
Budget **1,650–1,850W at the wall under combined load — unverified engineering estimate**, not a measurement. The 2050R reaches its full output only at **200–240V**.[241]
Use the priced 20A/250V C19 cord and an existing proper 240V 6-20 receptacle; electrical work is excluded.[377]
Use the PSU's supplied rated GPU cables and all required motherboard CPU / multi-GPU auxiliary power feeds; two native 16-pin PSU interfaces are not three independent native ports.[242][391]

**Unlocks — capacity-based expectations:** 33GB city frames on any card; isolate DCC rendering, ComfyUI/SAM and LLM inference on separate GPUs; 1TB host memory for concurrent sims, comps and model sessions. Three cards mean **3 × 96GB**, **not one 288GB allocation**; this GPU has no NVLink.[237] Plan for a full scene copy on each rendering device rather than assuming pooled VRAM. Assign explicit device IDs in the agent's job launcher.

**Scratch:** separate 2TB boot/apps; **3 × 4TB Linux RAID0 = 12TB decimal disposable scratch**. No redundancy, no original plates or sole copies of caches. Keep masters/backups on separate storage. Actual throughput and endurance under the studio's cache pattern are **unverified**.

**Noise / bottleneck:** very large tower, three blower GPUs and substantial RDIMM/VRM airflow; put it in a ventilated machine room, not beside dialogue recording. Measured dBA: **unverified**. Main limits become job threading/memory bandwidth, the per-device 96GB limit, and the NAS/100GbE endpoint—not aggregate installed VRAM.

**Purchase caveats:** Cloud Ninjas reports ten cards but requires **GTC paperwork** before finalizing the order; its listing does not expose a manufacturer part number beyond the exact model/retailer identifier.[82] The PSU has distributor lead time.[162] A 2TB DDR5-5600 8×256GB kit was listed unavailable, so do not treat maximum board capacity as immediately buyable memory.[181]

## 2. MID — $26,753.75

**Buy this tier for a new production box.** One 72GB card fixes the actual scene-size problem without allocating the star tier's memory/GPU budget. The four-module 256GB ECC kit is live-priced at **$11,790.99**; it is not an old sub-$1,000.00 RAM allowance.[382]

**Every row seen 2026-11-04.**

| PSU: **Corsair HX1500i (2025), 1500W ATX 3.1**<br>`CP-9020309-NA` | 1 | $319.99 | $319.99 | Corsair US direct; in stock.[253] |
| Chassis: **Fractal Design Meshify 2 XL, black, light-tint glass**<br>`FD-C-MES2X-02` | 1 | $239.99 | $239.99 | Amazon marketplace / Newegg Business; orderable new offer.[358] |
| Additional chassis fans: **Noctua NF-A14 PWM 140mm**<br>`NF-A14 PWM` | 2 | $24.95 | $49.90 | Amazon / Noctua Cooling Solutions; in stock.[325] |

**Assembly / fit.** This is the **original TRX50-SAGE WIFI**, not the newer WIFI A.[33]
Flash **BIOS 1106 or newer** for 9970X support.[319]
Four RDIMMs fill four channels.[382]
Use a full-x16 CPU-connected GPU slot; retain the other full-x16 slot for a future second two-slot 300W GPU.[250]
Use a CPU-connected Gen5 M.2 socket for the 9100 PRO; the boot SSD can occupy the other CPU-connected M.2.[250]
Onboard **10GbE** is included.[250]
Follow ASUS's single-PSU wiring instructions; a dual-PSU-capable board does not require buying two supplies for this build.[395]

**Power / noise:** **800–950W wall draw — unverified estimate** for the specified one-GPU build. HX1500i is deliberately oversized for a later second card; it is included now, the second card is not.[253]
The BOM has five chassis fans plus the dual-fan CPU cooler.[359][243][325]
Large, audible tower, not a rack system; measured dBA **unverified**.

**Unlocks / bottleneck:** the complete 28–33GB scene range with substantial nominal VRAM margin; 32 cores and 256GB host memory for parallel DCC sessions. One GPU is still a contention point when render and video/LLM jobs run together. Queue GPU-heavy work until a second card is justified. Four-channel memory and the bought 256GB capacity are the next limits. These are capacity/planning deductions, not throughput guarantees.

**Data-quality note:** Aztek's selected **VCNRTXPRO5000B72-PB** offer is 72GB Blackwell; a sentence in its description incorrectly says GDDR6. NVIDIA confirms **72GB GDDR7**; the retailer is used for price/stock, NVIDIA for specifications.[46][239]

## 3. BUDGET — $6,827.84

**Buy capacity, not a misleading speed upgrade.** AM4/DDR4 reduces RAM spend; retain an **Ampere 48GB A6000** to stay close to the studio's current Ampere GPU generation. This is the lowest-cost verified complete configuration selected here with 16 cores, 128GB RAM and a 48GB Ampere GPU—not a claim that every used marketplace listing worldwide was exhausted. Refurbished Turing RTX 8000 cards were cheaper, but their 5.2 OptiX median was **2,640.61**, versus **4,640.68** for A6000; they were rejected as too large a render-performance regression.[124][84]

**Every row seen 2026-11-04.**

| Part / exact model | Qty | Unit USD | Extended USD | Seller / availability / source |
|---|---:|---:|---:|---|
| CPU: **AMD Ryzen 9 5900XT, 16C/32T**<br>`100-100001581WOF` | 1 | $315.00 | $315.00 | Amazon.com (sold/shipped by Amazon); in stock.[322] |
| Motherboard: **MSI PRO B550M-VC WIFI**<br>`PRO B550M-VC WIFI` | 1 | $109.99 | $109.99 | Amazon.com (sold/shipped by Amazon); in stock.[357] |

| GPU: **NVIDIA RTX A6000 Ampere, 48GB GDDR6 ECC**<br>`NVD-QUARA-48-EXC-7CQCF1 (retailer SKU)` | 1 | $4,799.99 | $4,799.99 | ItsWorthMore; excellent variant available; refurbished.[203] |
| CPU cooler: **Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 SE**<br>`PS120 SE / ASIN B0BNDTJVPL` | 1 | $35.90 | $35.90 | Amazon / Thermalright Direct; in stock.[326] |
| OS / applications NVMe: **Samsung 990 PRO 2TB**<br>`MZ-V9P2T0B/AM` | 1 | $389.99 | $389.99 | Amazon.com (sold/shipped by Amazon); in stock.[323] |
| PSU: **Corsair RM850e ThermalProtect, 850W ATX 3.1**<br>`CP-9020336-NA` | 1 | $139.99 | $139.99 | Corsair US direct; in stock.[194] |
| Chassis: **Corsair FRAME 4000D RS ARGB, black**<br>`CC-9011296-WW` | 1 | $119.99 | $119.99 | Corsair US direct; in stock.[297] |

**Assembly / fit.** Four matched 32GB UDIMMs reach the board's 128GB ceiling; these are **non-ECC UDIMMs**, not server RDIMMs.[350][383]
Flash a stable CPU-supporting BIOS using the MSI flash facility.[352]
Put the A6000 in the CPU-connected PCIe 4.0 x16 slot and the sole 990 PRO in the CPU-connected M.2 slot.[351]
Use the FRAME case's three included fans for a two-front-intake / one-rear-exhaust plan.[297]
ItsWorthMore's available variant is **Excellent refurbished**, not its sold-out cheaper Very Good variant.[252]
Exact OEM GPU sub-part number is **unverified** because the seller does not disclose one.[203]

**Power / noise:** **550–650W wall draw — unverified estimate**. The 850W PSU has two EPS feeds; obey NVIDIA's A6000 CPU-8-pin power guidance and do not force a PCIe-8-pin lead into a CPU/EPS connector.[194][384] Standard grounded 120V supply; normal tower size, audible blower under load; dBA **unverified**.

**Unlocks / bottleneck:** 48GB physically covers the 33GB upper-end scene with nominal space left for overhead; it does **not** promise a second large AI workload fits simultaneously. 128GB RAM is only moderate headroom over the supplied 93GB current machine. The older CPU, non-ECC dual-channel RAM and shared GPU/2TB boot-scratch SSD are the compromises. Its measured device medians are slightly below the current 7900X/3090 reference; schedule, do not oversubscribe.[84][160]

**Only alternative:** if the studio needs just the cheapest immediate capacity repair rather than another complete box, install the **same $4,799.99 A6000** in the existing 7900X workstation and retain its CPU/RAM. That upgrade price is not the complete-build total above.[203]

## Blender Open Data — version-correct, not invented multi-GPU scores

The requested **Blender 5.2** line currently has **5.2.3** release files, dated October 22, 2026.[75]
Exact **5.2.3 CPU and OptiX queries returned no rows**: all exact-current-patch benchmark numbers are therefore **unverified / null**.[379][380]
The following are the verified **5.2.0** Open Data medians, a current-minor-version reference, not relabeled 5.2.3 results.[84][160]

| Build / reference | GPU, OptiX median per device | GPU submissions | CPU median | CPU submissions |
|---|---:|---:|---:|---:|
| STAR-KILLER — 3 identical Max-Q devices | **15,505.04 each** | 7 | **2,640.38** | 2 |
| MID — RTX PRO 5000 **72GB** | **10,956.48** | 5 | **1,376.93** | 1 |
| BUDGET — RTX A6000 | **4,640.68** | 8 | **411.67** | 35 |
| Supplied current 3090 / 7900X models | **5,087.13** | 102 | **443.73** | 28 |

GPU source: Open Data, **OPTIX + Blender 5.2.0 + grouped by device**.[84] CPU source: **CPU + Blender 5.2.0 + grouped by device**.[160] Higher score is better. These are community submissions across operating systems, not Linux-only tests; very small CPU samples for the Threadrippers warrant caution. Whole-build and three-GPU aggregate scores: **unverified**—do not present three times a median as a measured result. Cycles scores do not predict Nuke, Houdini simulation/Mantra or local-model tokens/sec.

## Integrator sanity check — STAR-KILLER class

**Exxact TensorEX TWS-193767794: $101,068.00 configured online on 2026-11-04**, read back with **9995WX + 8×128GB DDR5-6400 ECC + 3× RTX PRO 6000 Max-Q 96GB** and the default RTX 4500 Ada removed.[79] Includes 2TB Gen4 SSD, liquid CPU cooler, dual 10GbE, rails, Ubuntu 24.04 and three-year parts/labor support.[79] This is **4U rackmountable**, not the tower BOM; its 1,535W widget figure is an estimate, not wall-meter data.[79]

**Not like-for-like:** no three-drive scratch array or added 100GbE NIC/DAC in that configuration; component brands, exact PSU and shipping lead time remain **unverified**. The configurator retained a 120V cord default and a DDR4 platform-description typo despite selected DDR5.[79] Require a corrected written BOM, validated power/thermals and a firm quote before buying.

**Conclusion:** the integrator's displayed price is lower than this DIY star BOM even before DIY assembly/support. Obtain a firm Exxact quote before spending six figures on retail parts. Puget's comparable Threadripper PRO configuration was also attempted, but blocked retrieval prevented verifying a comparable price; its price is **unverified**, not guessed.[79][76]

## Deployment gates

- Treat scene-fit and simultaneous-app claims as **capacity-based design expectations**, not completed production tests. Reserve VRAM for display/contexts/denoisers; pin GPU IDs and cap parallel job count.
- Run ECC/memory testing, VRAM checks, a real 33GB city-frame render and an overnight concurrent Houdini + Nuke + Blender + ComfyUI/LLM test before acceptance. Archive clocks, temperatures, peak RAM/VRAM and actual wall power.
- Pin a verified NVIDIA driver / CUDA / PyTorch / DCC combination and the studio ACES configuration. **Arch-specific certification, exact local-model compatibility, render licenses and scaling efficiency are unverified** here. Hardware acquisition does not establish software support.
- RAID0 is scratch only. A 100GbE card does not make an existing 10GbE NAS or switch 100GbE; the priced 1m DAC assumes a compatible nearby endpoint.

## Verification and limits

No orders or quote forms were submitted. Selected monetary amounts are live observations; indexed lower prices and alternative conditions were discarded when live purchase panels differed. Retailer bot walls were worked around with browser purchase panels or direct product/variant data. Unavailable retailer listings, RAM configurations and unknown exact-patch/multi-GPU benchmarks were not silently substituted into the priced BOM.
